A Place To Be Poem by Joshua Bantum

A Place To Be

So this is a place to be?
Lighted windows defining
Cobblestone streets,
From every darkened crevasse,
Like stars revealing their rooftops below.

Every corner is a coliseum,
Stretched like a canvas with different stones,
Every face shelters a similar tongue,
But speaks in a different tone.

And I witness these rarities
As this cigarette burns the same,
Ashes the same,
And I’m reminded now,
Eventually I’ll kiss every tongue, stare back
into every window, and
Caress every waking smile
That is chosen for me.

Rocking back and forth
Between what I know,
And what I don’t,
Each extreme leading me through this,
The path with many leaves,
Blowing within the seasons,
Each one without precedence,
Finding his place,
His place to be.
