A play destined to be a tragedy

It was a play destined to be a tragedy
Written by agony, Played by deception and misery
Watched by clowns in loves with comedy
On the stage of an ominous little cemetery
Yet the show remained, and could last a century
Even though it was a felony, even though it was a treachery
The clowns seduced to purgatory
Engulfed in the blaze of glory
They wanted to know the story
Of the tainted love, and I am sorry
Sorry I played on the stage of fake smiles
Sorry I throw words over distant miles & miles

Poem of the Day

poet Katharine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
