A Poem Poem by William E. Dickinson

A Poem

A poem is but a hint of
The soul and heart of man
Sketching the bare essentials
Yet, a glimpse, a grain of sand Picking out some basics
The thoughts and threads within
Summarizing the best of sunlight
Perhaps colloquial, perhaps a hymn To sing in times of sadness
Of joy and great acclaim
In the essence of our lives To remember, honor, sustain
