A Poet Poem by Sandra Feldman

A Poet

Once a poet, always a poet,
Like a fruit tree in full bloom,
The poet hopes his inner flowers,
Will turn into poetic towers,
While he makes love to the Moon.

ONCE A POET, ALWAYS A POET. I like the confidence this poem, especially that opening line, expresses. I wrestle constantly with my identity as a poet. Each new poem I work on becomes a struggle to prove to myself I am a poet. But your poem gives me a different paradigm. The moon-goddess is the poet's muse (I'm writing from a male perspective) , she will give me the resources to turn my inner flowers (past poems) into towers (my poetic life) that will reach her realm (confidence that I am a poet) . I feel better already with this new paradigm. When I have doubts, I'll remind myself - YOU'RE BUILDING A TOWER TO THE MOON. DON'T GIVE UP. KEEP CLIMBING.
