A Promise Poem by Makayla Straight

A Promise

Rating: 5.0

A promise is actually meant to be kept.
Not be broken.
Why do you make me all these promises that you can't keep?
Don't promise me anything anymore
Because I'll feel like your always lieing to me,
By not keeping your promises.
You don't even try to keep your promises,
That's what gets me mad.
Does the word Promise mean anything to you?

'A promise is actually meant to be kept.' Very true, the word promise is well defined in this line. Keep writing, Makayla. Best Wishes Naseer

True! Promises seem to have become something people just throw around to shut you up, to keeep you happy. It becomes annoying no frustrating when all you get is empty promises. Well said makayla!

I have to agree that a promise is just a bunch of words put together. They really don't mean anything until the promise is fulfilled. Is this about a boy you may have feelings for, or is it about your parents? Whatever this is about, you have certainly put your feelings in these lines. I liked reading this because it is emotional, short, and to the point. Many of us have been disappointed by failed promises, but as I have gone through the years I have found that promises are like stale crackers, they break so easily and lots of them are never kept. Maybe disappointed is understating the emotions we feel when we are pomised something then never get it. But whatever it is, a failed promise can be devastating, especially when we are young. A 10+++++ and thank you for sharing. Love & hugs, Barbara
