A Quiet Journey Iii Poem by Ginikachi Uzoma

A Quiet Journey Iii

'A Quiet Journey III'
Now, forbid it not
When you're told:
'You will kiss the dust'
Neither embrace the blessing
That speaks thus:
'You'll live forever'.
For if death does not itself yield
To mortality,
Wherefore do you wish that
Life will itself yield to your pleas?
quietus bridges the gap between
sex, age, race and the rich;
and his stealth exhalant air discolours them,
hiding them behind those tenebrific doors
of insipid activities where Cain
for want of nought sent Abel to dwell.
While you still breathe
Consider the other who lies face-up
but unwillingly.
And as Time hurries hastily to you
Get ready for your turn to face-up
Like that other, and marvel you not
For surely, you MUST eat of that cake
Baked for EVERYMAN;
It tastes both sweet and sour.
