A Reflection Of A Life Poem by David Harris

A Reflection Of A Life

Many years ago,
I was trying to pull my life together,
trying to figure out who I really was.
I had left what few friends I had,
moved across to a land of strangers
which was to become my home.
My insecurities robbed me
of all the best chances
that ever came my way,
leaving me adrift with all my inner fears.
Even as I grew older those fears were always present
and never released their grip on me.
I escaped from one bad domain to another,
the second wanted to stifle
every once of creativity.
Every road I took met a dead end,
friends became less and less
until there were none I could ever count upon.
Now I feel lonely within everything I do.
I guess that is the way that I will feel
until my life is through.
