A Sequence Of Good-Byes Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

A Sequence Of Good-Byes

Stars Dim
The night air is chilled.
Lips cling
Arms enfold
Tears fill once laughing eyes.
A plea
A sigh
Adieu to love!

Good-bye sweet estacy
Farewell to kisses that betrayed.
I am not wise as thought to be,
My heart would not behave.

In dreams of you there are only glad times,
Yet wide awake, only good-bye times,
A heart locked away.

We kiss and the fond memory of
Yesterday erases but for a moment
The knowledge that we are no
Longer one, If we ever were.
Again a tear - a heart despairs.

Sleep does not come tonight
The memory of yesterday is yet alive
And lingers in the heart of me.

Afraid to want again, love again, hope again.
Yet here I stand, my hand in yours,
An I believe again in life's dream.
A final episode.

An honest portrayal of heartache - a sad and beautiful story which everyone has endured, captured with dignity.
