A Single Tear Drop Poem by Linda Barnes

A Single Tear Drop

What is that on your cheek
Is it of loneliness or defeat
Could it be from hunger
Or shame of another

Is it a single drop of rain
That found its way to your face
Or from a night of despair
When it seems no one cares

Is it something in your eye
That the body washes out
A simple act to cleanse
Or that must be replenished

Is it a moment of weakness
That covers an act of kindness
Or a consistent irritation
That has pushed your patience

This single tear drop begins
When an emotion becomes overwhelmed
And explodes to comprehend
A loss of love so unimaginable
