A Smile

What does that smile on your face mean
Does it ever reach your eyes
Or like the millions of smiles before it
A mere fake

Is it there for those that care, to be seen
While deep inside, one dies
Just how easy can such a smile ever sit
When we ache

Why is it that we all put on that smile
A frown upturned in a heartbeat
But no matter how hard we try, still it remains
A mere fake

Surely its okay to simply cry for a awhile
When life is not quite as sweet
Surely we do not need to hide our pain
When we ache

For that is what smiles are
A mere fake
When we ache
