A Smile Given Freely Poem by David Harris

The skies are bleak and grey,
the colour of sadness,
but you won’t find that
hidden within my eyes.
I feel an inner warmth
that radiates a smile
given freely to everyone I meet.
Happiness has returned
in abundance to my life.
Every waking hour
brings more and more joy.
The dark clouds that hung
ominously over me
have gone forever more.
I have that inner peace
that I have been looking for.
Troubles will come
and troubles will go,
but none will ever play on my mind
as they’ve done before.
I feel like a new person,
my life has turned around.
No more that heavy look
and face lined with a frown.
Instead, you will find me smiling
at every chance I get.
I feel an inner happiness
from my head to my feet.
Gone are the days
of gloom and doom
that spiralled my life out of control.
I feel positive now,
ready to succeed
all the challenges I meet.
