A Sober Moment, If You Please Poem by Meghan

A Sober Moment, If You Please

I'm wanting to start remembering my days
fitting together pieces of the night before
fractions and remnants on the bedroom floor
without the clearest thought, there's nothing to sustain creation
piecing together pipe dreams and revelations
constant elevation, raining elation
the stale taste of new words on old thoughts
yesterday's day is today and tomorrow is now
it all feels like the same speed even when we slow down
it's the dull ringing of the environment
trying to push it's way back into my atmopshere
but I am above the clouds
looking in and looking down
and what have I found?
the echoing sound of a voice I'd lost long ago
there was too much collision
in the transition of child to adult
the result is the onslaught of mental confusion
I need a transfusion of life into this human
I need to continue growing and stop throwing stones at my own reflection
finding no peace or perfection
this mind is infected
the soul needs to be resurrected
can you do me a favour and take my pulse?
hold my clammy palm and rest my
good-for-nothing head on your shoulder
pin back my face so it looks like I smile more
and then pour me another.
