A Soldier's Farewell Poem by ANDREW BLAKEMORE

A Soldier's Farewell

Rating: 5.0

I'll see you in my dreams my dear
I'll keep you in my heart,
I'll think of you each day I live
Each second we're apart,
I pray my kiss upon the wind
Shall like an arrow fly,
And part the clouds that gather
In this dark and stormy sky.

Yet through the battle's roar I'll hear
The sweetest song of love,
And it shall drown those screams and cries
Like raindrops from above,
May they fall in notes of silver
On the fields now stained with blood,
And douse the fiery flames of hell
That burn within the mud.

Farewell my love for I must go
And leave our sacred shore,
To fight for King and country
In this God-forsaken war,
I hope that soon I shall return
If I could have my way,
Then peace would live again
And I would be with you this day.
