A Soldiers Daughter Poem by Emily Clark

A Soldiers Daughter

Rating: 5.0

a soldiers daughter...

when i was small my daddy went away, he went to a place that even the devil wont show his face.

my daddy came back quiet an pale, his eyes full of hate, his heart closed, his mind playin the images over an over again.

you can hear him at night quietly pacing the floor, his head screaming, as he clings to reality.

you can see him check the locks of the doors, close the blinds to the outside world.

you can see the pain in his eyes as he struggles to continue with life, tries to control the anger from deep inside.

you can hear him roar with frustration an hear the whacks of another broken night, his nightmares become mine.

im finally grown up an he has gone, life seemed so painful for him to ignore, he went out back an never returned.

a soldiers life gone in an instant but the memories of the hell last, we march through the streets on that one day at last to give respect to our fallen dad.

now life goes on, time to heal but once i want to hear dad say im at peace at last.
