A Strange Form Of Communication Poem by Sandra Feldman

A Strange Form Of Communication

Poetry is a strange form of communication,
It has Morse code, radar, fascination,
Exploding feelings, sometimes leading to salvation
It can enthuse and motivate a whole wide Nation,
Or live forever in our own personal imagination.

This is wonderful! You are defining poetry by using elements of poetry, and not dictionary techniques. You have three metaphors in the second line, namely, MORSE CODE, RADAR, FASCINATION. Each one could be probed for what it reveals: Poetry is like MORSE CODE when a poet uses very compressed language of connotative words. And the next line about FEELINGS... LEADING TO SALVATION - I concur with that confidence in the spiritual impact of poems on our lives. My example of a poet of such gifts is Rilke but every reader must decide that identity based on a genuine spiritual connection with a poet. Who qualifies for you?

Poetry is the balm that cures The aches and pain that endures After the exercise of body or mind That comes after; you will find. After encounter with the outside world Where events are in a constant swirl But poetry is there to settle the mind On what is right, wrong, indifferent or..., you'll find, sidi
