Abide The Day Poem by moon batchelder

Abide The Day

Rating: 5.0

the morning dawns 'ere dreams can coalesce
bring forth from 'yon their hope and respite. still
a bit of promise seems the day to bless
upon the guilded rays. i drink my fill.

anon the gloom of grief and broad regret
response to doom of news heard night before
has settled in - some bruised god's silhouette -
a shadow cast, a stranger at the door.

wherefore must pass the happiness of sleep?
whence flee the aspirations that we dare
to entertain in those vast hollows deep
which render us reprieve from waking care?

but oh, until returned to idyll's bliss
be still my heart; thou hast known worse than this!
