Above Water Poem by julie kops

Above Water

Rating: 3.5

She knew it would not be easy
Right there from the start
That the path would be dangerous
And may try to break her heart

So she's learned to dance upon the air
To not let her soul drown
In false promises, empty wishes
And all the unkindness she has found

And though the waters raise a bit
A little more each day
She refuses to give them a foothold
Or let the darkness there hold sway

She knows she cannot hope to find
A peaceful island of dry land
Until she's bared all her broken
And turned to face it once again

Wish her luck precious soul
For she dances ever still
Knowing that the stars will see her there
And this empty heart refill

And what ever for by the knowledge true
That finds her believing in love's song
Her stubborn heart marches ever on
Till the stars have called her home
