Absence Poem by Michael John Cook

Absence

I did not sleep a wink,
You were on my mind,
I was teetering on the brink,
Struggling to unwind,
I knew I'd miss your face,
And each day would be hard,
You left a bitter taste,
Caught me off my guard,
I felt I couldn't tell you,
The way I was feeling inside,
I worried you'd think it untrue,
And you'd run away and hide,
But now you've gone anyway,
And I encouraged you to go,
I am left to suffer each day,
That passes by so slow,
You're probably doing well,
And I should be happy too,
But this happiness is hell,
As it isn't really true
