Acceptance Speech

Speaking only in a certain tongue, the language you speak
The connection I felt was a beating heart
Feeling alive for the first time, every waking moment
It aches to be shouted from my lungs
But my speech is consumed by my fears
I’m stuck in front of this podium with nothing to say
Anxiety begins to rupture through my body
The flood light slowly cuts off and I’m temporarily blinded
I come to, and you’re the only one sitting in the seat
I reserved the best spot in the house
To watch me break
To watch me fumble over these words I wrote for you
I look away but you’re fixed on me
Knowing what I’m capable of and what I can do
Knowing what you’re capable of and what you can do
I can feel the flood light heat once again
The speech begins…

"Heaven"—is what I cannot reach!
The Apple on the Tree—
Provided it do hopeless—hang—
That—"Heaven" is—to Me!
