Act Poem by Marla Smith

Act

I wonder why you keep playing this act
This act of instances
This act of everything is fine
I wonder why you don’t realize
What you are doing
How much it hurts me
You ask me what is wrong?
I know I can’t tell you because it would break your heart
I lie to you and say everything is fine
But I know it isn’t
Because all I want to do is remember
What happened in the past
All I hear is story’s about what happened in the past
I try not to look so confused as you talk about them
I know that I won’t remember
All I can do is remember the moments now
And how much fun they are
It doesn’t help when you have to sort out the facts
And the lies
What I found out that really fuels me to do this
Is love
The love of people who care
I know it can be my fuel
Because it is never ending.
