Addiction Poem by April Mack

Addiction

A dibilitating cesspool of rotting lies & perpetual frustrations,
The disturbing realization that your life is slowly -yet continuously-deteroirating.
It's that progressive oblivion to a disease that has no prejudice or remorse,
It's that intolerable hemorrhage that has no need to be forced.
The ruthless diversity is oftentimes extremely vague in the beginning,
Until it's vicious, suicidal temperance begins the game & starts winning.
The tragic weakening of one's pride, esteem, & purpose,
Begins to become evident in the misery of being powerless -so we feel we're not worth it.
The manifestation of the disease becomes an institution of the mind,
It withers us away until we try to rearrange & unwind.
Whether it's addiction to sex, addiction to love, addiction to resentments or addiction to drugs,
We must come to the realization that no matter how demoralizing it was....our addiction, WE CAN RISE ABOVE! !
