Addiction Poem by Paige DeRogatis

Addiction

Sitting in the playground, trying to decide

To either play upon the swings, or go over to the slide

The slide is your decision, sure it looks like fun

But looks can be deceiving, the ride hasn't begun

One push and you're falling, down and down you go

You can't stop now, its endless, a spiral out of control

Down

Down

Down

Do not try to climb back

the risk is just too dangerous

you may just have a heart attack

what have you gotten into?

This neverending mess.

You're scared, the tears are falling

Yet you're also feeling happiness

You must do it again

Who cares about the danger?

Who cares about the fear?

Who cares about the anger?

Just being in that moment where nothing else matters

The worries aren't important

Relationships aren't shattered

You hate this…but you love it

All you want is MORE

This is your addiction

And this is what you live for.
