Aeroplane's First Day In My Village Poem by Tony Adah

Aeroplane's First Day In My Village

The clear afternoon sky rumbled
And the earth shook
Above and high in the sky
A contrail followed a great noisy bird
In the air and the world was doomed
At least so we thought.
Only brave men came out
To view the frightening bird
Which obviously was not a bird!
Good as the thinking of the Wright brothers was
The black man's heart was in his hands
Afternoon palm wine tappers abandoned
Their palm trees thinking that
The world will end with the passing
Of the plane but it never did.
