Affections For My Sister Poem by Bill Darrah

Affections For My Sister

Simple hearted, yet whole hearted.
Soft and light hearted, yet tender hearted-
Such an incredibly vast love never forgotten
Nor departed, once imparted
In a sister so many years ago
That it grows stronger and stronger
With each new hello.
How can it be so
That one person can harbor and sew
Such an amazing love that glows
Every time she comes and goes
Leaving imprints of longing
To see her presence of feeling grow
As time allows the feeling of belonging
To deepen this strengthening bond
I have yet to truly experience, appreciate, and know
Its fullest extent so intensely fond
Of my deepest, most intimate feelings
So closely connected to my heart
Even though she is much farther away
From me than from the start
When I could look inside her eyes
And see what she felt with her heart,
When I could feel the warm embrace
In her arms and the grace in her smiling face
When she would softly say,
'I Love You' in such a deeply moving way
I would begin to smile and inwardly cry
As I was filled with emotions in each sigh
Seemingly unworthy for me to feel in my heart
When she up and moved and I had nothing to say
Now expressed and freshly poured out
Incapable of putting into words until now
When I finally have the ability to start
Forming words from feelings felt so long ago
In hopes she will feel and honestly know
Emotions I hold in these words written
In a warm, welcoming hello
Thanking her for deeply touching my heart
So I can finally feel and express deepest emotions
Exposed to me like never before
When I selfishly held your feelings stored
Without ever revealing my feelings evermore
Powerful and moving to my heart's core
Warm, soft, so tenderly stirring to my soul
Which without your love and tender care
Would have remained an empty hole
Left in darkness, sadness, and loneliness
Taking its devastating toll
As I gaze at your picture with an empty stare
Wondering why my feelings can't be shared
With you sister as these words passionately
Attempt to express themselves to you there
As you wait to receive feelings I have paired
With the sister whose life stirred with loving care
To love me for so many years before
Moving on in life and walking out the door
Has finally found me loving you so much more
In this present life I love to live for.
