Africa Has Come Of Age Poem by Emmanuel Odei Oduro

Africa Has Come Of Age

Africa Has Come of Age

Africa has come of age?
The writing is on the wall
The grasping is gaining grounds
Among watchful witnesses
But the skeptics have suspicions
Of the unfolding scenario

Is it a brief win dotting the usual state?
Is it the launch of the maturing process?
‘Shelve the celebration yet', says the Skeptics
‘The indications of maturing are misted
What must we applaud? '

‘There is a lot to celebrate',
Retort the optimists
Change is perceptibly permeating Africa
Coups drooping, democracy blooming
Corruption being strangled
Nepotism, for survival struggling
Injustice facing ejection
Incumbent Heads rout at elections
Meekly and nobly donning defeat
Smacks striking steps forward
Extraneous to our Africa, formerly
Is our Africa not maturing?

With this plethora of pointers
Who can discard this distinct truth?
That Africa our corrupted continent
The land associated with accusation
Is surely shedding its black sheep's skin
It has been clothed with

Africa our Africa
The natural resource rich land
The prey of those primal periods
The land that propels their industries,
Has, evidently, come of age.
