After All Poem by Betty Stoneman

After All

After all
Experiences analyzed
Searching for significance
Truly a reason
Turmoil of emotion
Disdain for the illogical
Knowing it is so
Doesn’t prevent it from being
Doesn’t kill its influence

After all
I looked into the eyes
Of possibility
To find reflected back
Deception of hope
Alters reality
Knowing it is so
Doesn’t numb the hurt
Doesn’t numb the desire

After all
Crawl back to the comfort
Ignorant emptiness
Without misconceptions
Without expectations
Without memories
Knowing it is so
Doesn’t make it insignificant
Doesn’t suppress the need

After all
Contempt for being human
Excuse for being flawed
Hideousness mutation
Of love and hate
Mingled and tangled
Knowing it is so
Doesn’t offer an explanation
Doesn’t quiet the confusion
