After Drought Poem by Charles Hanson Towne

After Drought

There came an army from the sky,
And surged across the parched plain;
I saw the hurrying hosts go by--
The blue batallions of the rain.

O mighty army (bringing peace!)
How bright your helmets seemed to shine!
You cavalcades brought glad release,
For God was Captain of the line!
