Afternoon Rain Poem by Robert Johnston

Afternoon Rain

We lie on the bed, feeling the afterglow.
The storm is pelting like a liquid metronome-
but what do we care, as long as we're together?

I look into your eyes and see the love in them.
You touch me with gossamer softness, cooing gently.
God, it feels so good to be in love with you.

The afternoon rain can come and go as it pleases,
but I'm staying here with you, in total bliss.
A gentle touch from you says you want more of me.

As I take you into my arms and kiss you, I hear
the rolling thunder that came with today's rain.
But we are safe here, our love our main shield.

We make love as the liquid sunshine falls outside.
Let the afternoon rain fall upon our window pane-
we have all that we need right here...just us!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was thinking back to my college days, and making love to my girlfriend while a thunderstorm was raging outside.

Ahh, sweet memories!
