Times were when an auto rickshaw
Drove over my dainty toes
I said ouch, there was a momentary pain;
Shouted and moved to the next lane.
Times were when I could wear stilettos,
And even walk on slippery snow.
When young, you set your limits
Couldn’t care and get away with it.
Now, when my toe gets struck by a chair,
I end up with what they call a mild fracture.
Stay in bed, in a cast, hair dishevelled.
As the pain slowly up my spine travels.
One slice of pizza with tomato and cheese
And little bit of fried food with grease,
My belly aches and I long for a shut eye,
But sleep seems to have said good bye.
No longer can go on my knees
Since have rheumatoid arthritis.
Body point blank says, I refuse
To forgive you, for all the misuse.
Now, there is little money can buy,
Just pills you swallow and cry.
When I groan, family leaves
In disdain; turns on the small screen.
My son who lives overseas,
Calls and suggests a walking stick.
But Anika with her kind eyes,
Sits by my side to empathize.
We must order cushions for your feet,
Meanwhile let’s make a collage with dry leaves.
Pure love and innocence of my grand child,
Eases the pain to my delight I find.
Inspired by Raj Nandy’s GRAY HAIRS
Mark Twain:
Age is an issue of mind over matter.
If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

your grand child will keep you on your toes mam...people who have mark twains humor would never ever age...lovely write...very natural
mamtaji, times are changing........ but still, none have invented anything whiter than a child's eye-white....... we call that innocence.........
Beautiful piece Mamta....with the Mark Twain quotation as the icing on the cake...we are all sailing in the same boat..10+++++ from me.....
Mamta ji Thanks! I wonder how many read my poem 'Grey Hairs', like you! I wanted to give the same remarks of Mark Twain as my comments, buy now I cannot! So here are a few: - 'Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional '! 'Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years...We grow old by deserting our ideals.Years may wrinkle our skin, but to give up enthusiasm - wrinkles the soul! ' For your poem 10! -Raj Nandy
'We must order cushions for your feet, Meanwhile let’s make a collage with dry leaves. Pure love and innocence of my grand child, Eases the pain to my delight I find'... Grand children are real time medicine for ailing ageing parents...good poem Mamta...a green life from life picture real...10
Age issue is subdued by experiences and further subdued when we see our grand children. What a coincidence, Mamta! We have common names in our families. My son's name, as you know, is Sameer and my elder daughter's name is Anika. I am glad to read Sameer's comment. He seems to be tuned to your poetic wisdom. Regards Naseer
Age has a value in this earth, here our life, love, longing need 'take care' Mamta's words emitting light, everybody cheer! 10+++
Age is something that doesn't matter, unless you are adaptive in all eras yet it is indeed a very high price to pay for maturity and experiences. There are compensations for growing older. One is the realization that to be sporting isn't at all necessary. It is a great relief to reach this stage of wisdom. Everyone will have to get to that particular stage of life but the important thing is that you have to live long enought.......
Age will come fast at heel Ailments and sickness Stay by as shadows To come and go as they please No pills, ointments or gel Would ever give us relief It is only Pure love that Eases any pain of [Body, heart or mind]!
