Agonizing Love Poem by Maureen Adair

Agonizing Love

Seductive trickery, a mean joke,
are the reasons I'm falling for this bloke.

Oh! An idiot am I!
To believe this exhilarating lie.

Why do I search for those eyes, that smile, that face?
Why does my heart to dreams give chase?

Why must your smile mesmerize me so?
Why can't these feelings be banished and go?

The more I avoid and hide,
you are there at every corner, by my side.

But you do not see me,
when, from this agony, will I be free?

When will this agonizing love flee my heart,
before it tears me apart?
