Ah Sunflower Poem by William Blake

Ah Sunflower

Rating: 3.2

Ah Sunflower, weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the sun;
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller's journey is done;

Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale virgin shrouded in snow,
Arise from their graves, and aspire
Where my Sunflower wishes to go!

The two stanza's are different in tone, the snow and grave are used as dark images to contrast the happiness of a sunflower.

The sunflower must be impressive. Allen Ginsberg, who knew Blake's poetry well, also wrote 'Sunflower Sutra', which I think is better than Blake's 'Ah, Sunflower'.
