Alfa Male Possum Poem by Francis Duggan

Alfa Male Possum

About mating rights and territory they violently disagree
At night in the garden on the wattle tree
The male brush tail possums they snarl and they fight
As they wage all out war in the depths of the night
In the still of the night a racket they create
For the winning possum the right for to mate
With the adult females in his territory
He enforces his rights rather aggressively
The alfa male brush tail possum one who rules by fear
In his loud and harsh snarls aggression one can hear
The other male possums stay out of his way
Respect to his might they have learned to pay
He treats all males of his kind as foes and none to him a friend
And his honour tonight once more he will defend
