Allow The Waterway Poem by Francis Duggan

Allow The Waterway

Old Allow today in flood waters of brown
Roars under the river bridge in Kanturk Town
And on towards the Blackwater bank high does flow
Where into a huge waterway it does grow

Long before people to the Country now known as Ireland came
Old Allow the river then without a name
Flowed to the Blackwater every night and day
On towards the great ocean many miles away

How old are the rivers would anyone know
Long beforethe birth of the first dinosaurs from the hills they did flow
And long after the life from the last human being it has gone
The rivers to oceans will be babbling on

Allow the waterway so old in time
That has inspired the makers of song, story and rhyme
Bank high in Duhallow in flood waters of brown
Roars under the river bridge in Kanturk Town.
