Almost Blue Poem by Brandon Lucero

Almost Blue

I saw you standing over there
touching your skin as it laid bare
memories flooding my sweet side
feelings of hurt so I tried to abide

Putting off the love I felt
praying that she could find herself
helplessness crashed
the strongest of waves

Now my loneliness seems destined to stay

I cannot love for two
God only knows how much I love you
and yet all of that passion
won't kill your pain

The feeling inside
cold bitter rain

If you need me I will be present
pushing me away will burn with the power of a thousand suns
you showed me with ferocity
no one can make you love anyone

So I suppose my patience grows
as my young heart prepares to explode
breathing deeply took all I had
the pride I swallow
learning not to be sad

Take the time for gratitude
it will serve you well with an open heart
compassion is learned
compassion is purpose

These words fall short as they so often do
precarious situations no longer new
I have seen beauty that made me weep
I have seen your honest soul
I have experienced the sexiest nights
I will love you from these great heights
Yet if you don't feel that same way
I will care for you across the way
Our love is an ocean
Forever moving
Forever silent
Forever violent
