Almost Was Poem by Robert J Meyer

Almost Was

I talked to she who almost was,
And every sound - sighs and chuckles
Question and comment - was freighted
With what could have been

We talked about old movies,
And how my love life was going,
And how hers was not,
And then there were the kids
Hers popping up - one, two, three
Mine is full of contradictions -
And we meandered through our lives apart
As I imagined otherwise.

There are moments on the phone
When we are transported
To another universe where
Possibilities have fragrant blooms.
