Alone Poem by Linda Hill

Alone

Empty faces rushing by
Somewhere I hear a baby cry
A couple are fighting just up ahead
About something the other had said
I live in a world of my own
Why do I feel so alone

The stars shine, the wind blows free
The world moves on, except for me
A shooting star in the darkened skies
I watch it while a part of me dies
My life a blank page as I look on
Why do I feel so alone

The clock ticks, time races so fast
Nothing is forever, nothing will last
The song and dance of life is a dream
People laughing, I just want to scream
Standing still while the world moves on
Why do I feel so alone

Saddness engulfs me, it grips my soul
My heart is aching from the cold
Everyone racing to get some where
Lost in the shuffle, does anyone care
Darkness surrounds me, all light is gone
Why do I feel so alone

The acute feeling of solitude is felt by many people. People do rush around for precisely that reason, and to be useful in a world that is more individualistic and less at the same time.
