Am I Human? Poem by Anshul Gupta

Am I Human?

I visited heaven in my dream last night
I saw God, sitting serenely with eyes closed
He was meditating; His aura was so pleasing.

I kneeled down and bowed to Him
took his permission to join Him
He held my hand and offered me a walk
I was happy, I got a chance to talk!

He asked me how was it to be a human
I asked Him ruefully, 'Am I anymore a human? '
Laughing aloud, He asked me about my plight
I said nothing was alright.

I said I was treading water in life
I had within me so much strife
Hatred, fear and anger, had become my life's bane
My emotions were not in my control
I was in deep pain.

God smiled, held my hand tight
Don't worry he said, everything would be alright.

He gifted me a small wooden box
It looked like a child's Christmas gift
kept by parents in his socks.

Go back my child, and open the box
you will find the potion of life
drink the potion and take my name
it will end all your pain and all your strife.

I went back and opened the box
I found three bottles of potion inside
They were marked Love, Joy and Compassion
I drank them in great apprehension.

Having them, I felt so light
experienced in me a bright light
tears welled up in my eyes
I felt human to the highest height.

Love, Joy, and Compassion,
supplanted hatred, fear and anger
God was the only one I wanted now
for whom my heart was so eager.
