I sit down alone
Lost in thoughts from past and present
From who I was and where I was
To what I am and where I am
I have covered great distance
With losses and achievements
My ambition has carried me through
It has made me successful
And resourceful and powerful
It has made me learn new skills, new techniques
Enabled me to differentiate from others
To understand and relate to others
Why do they say it is bad to have ambition?
Why do they think it is being selfish and self-centered?
I look at myself and I know
Whatever good I have been able to do to others
Was possible only because I could do
With the resources I had
With the learning I had
Were it not for that
My contribution in life would be minor
So don’t be guilty of ambition
Use it to excel
And be as useful as you will.
