Amidst The Stones © Poem by Roann Mendriq

Amidst The Stones ©

Rating: 5.0

The railway tracks gleam silver black,
for miles along its lonely way;
Thundering onslaught in attack,
scattering stones in disarray.

Death and darkness lie awaiting,
on cruel path of flint and steel;
Ploughing onwards, no abating,
scarcely time enough to feel.

And there among the grime and stone,
wildflowers grow in sweet profusion;
Nodding gently, bent low, wind blown,
in the chaos and confusion.

How strange and good that beauty thrives,
Amidst life troubles, hope survives.

Wonderful sonnet. The couplet beautifully summarizes the theme.10
