Amy Dying Poem by Richard Cohen

Amy Dying

' Amy Dying'

by Richard David Cohen

I have no evidence. Not a shred of proof
That you loved me
I heard you say so
In words written and words spoken
Your eyes remained black.
Addicted, abused, ambivilent
You always came back
You always would leave

I have no reasons I have no clues
That you loved me
You gave your body
where was your warmth
No pleasure, no joy no memories
Altered, Aimless, Angry
You always would leave
You always came back

I can not be sure I have doubts
That you loved me
You gave yourself away
Your body and your spirit
Traded in for numbness
Absent, alienated, apart
you left one more time
Just your body came back

Now that you are gone I think I know
That you loved me
You had no choices
You had no chances no tomorrow
You can not breathe for yourself anymore
Alone, always alone
You left the world much to soon
You left your sadness and me
