An African Childs Prayer For His Mother Poem by Okechukwu Iroegbu

An African Childs Prayer For His Mother

I'll sing for yu
And I'll dance with yu
See my joy when I write for yu
And it's because of yu
I remember those hands that held me
Those hands that washed and fed me
My desire in a dream
Yur smiles as in a golden grin
Momi if not for yu
If not for yu...
I can't really say
Even if I recall those dry nights of May
When I was small
Yu found my lost ball
Oh precious mother
Precious momi precious mother
How I miss those back pats
And also the motherly slaps
Now what will I be
Wi'out yur prayers?
Yu push me off when I'm wrong
Yu pull me back with the other arm
Hold me once again
Cos I'll fall wi'out yu
Yu have washed my nakedness
And yu have directed me off from wickedness
My baby tears have fallen all over yu
Clothes blankets even yur food
Now I ask God for another favor
Please Dear Lord keep her for me
Now it's yur unfailing love
That kept hope burning lightly in my heart
Tis memory I want most
To hold yu the way yu held me when I was a toddler.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Well, I made tis when I was bored. But it turned out to be somethin' I really should do. Our mothers deserve to be praised for their bravery and courage in child upbringin'. They sacrificed their time, food and comfort for the babies. After Gods love, mothers love is the second.
