An Ageist Society We Live In Today Poem by Francis Duggan

An Ageist Society We Live In Today

An ageist society we live in today
But then some will tell you it's always been this way
Some in hair dyes and face lifts try to hide time's decay
But the clock on our lives it keeps ticking away.

The old have a past and the young dare to dream
And it is a young person's World that's how it does seem
And though your best days in time for you may be long gone
Your great lust for life makes you want to live on.

I too had my day-dreams that I did pursue
But day-dreams like sleep-dreams for few do come true
Success over failure anyone would choose
Though for one to win so many have to lose.

But at the end it hardly does matter at all
Since to the scythe of the Reaper we eventually fall
Those in poverty and those who know of wealth and fame
The Egalatarian Reaper does treat as the same.
