An Eligible Woman Poem by Michele Hegarty

An Eligible Woman

Rating: 5.0

My 6th at 60, I'm as amazed as the rest!

The first at 18, so young and in lust,
the baby was lost, things were never the same.

The second, 'cos he asked me, I'd Mother his child,
the wife he adored, died having John.
A bond slowly grew, he became my whole world.
Mick left us for a cruise ship, Gloria in tow.
My proudest achievement, adopting MY son.

The third had a family, John misses them still,
not free at all, he went home to his wife.
My shame was intense - should I have known?

The fourth I loved so much, I longed for his child,
His feelings were dimmer, but we agreed to try.
The practise was blissful, it went on for years,
until, unrelated, his car hit a tree.
I thought I'd never recover, He's the Love of my Life.

Then later, a young man with feelings so strong,
I truely believed I'd be carried along.
He Worshiped and Cherished, couldn't bear us apart.
I felt smothered, uneasy, in need of a break.
Worse then, he became clinging, obsessive, a stalker, a stranger.
Now gone.

I stand nervous in Lilac, buffed and refined, no hint of sheep here!
John upright supporting, a lovely girl (at last!) sits behind.
Beside me a good man, the kind companion I'm due.
The bonus, his grand-children, for fizz, dash, and laughs.
Finances secure now, I'm free to have fun.
The Best Man's a cutie, Can I say that? I will!
Till my death do us part, this time could be true!
'I Do'

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This woman is fictional - I call her Molly. If I had the skills I'd love to write a full story or novel about her life. Some parts are snippets of aspects of friends lives and loves. They reflect on strong resilient women and how life can change.

Women will love this. A man will find it interesting. I surely did. This seems to be the story of your life. If not, it is one of the greatest of imaginations. I enjoyed reading every word, though I did get a little confused along the way. But, no matter, it was fun and entertaining. What else does it have to be? GW62

I just love this - - the honesty penned with humour.... the darker pathos and above all the accessibility of reading...... a ten from me.....
