An Emerald Tiara Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

An Emerald Tiara

An emerald tiara
In a wooden box
Wrapped in silvery paper

Alex alone knows how much grief
Stephanie's solemn resolve
Cost her heart

(dedicated to a great poet, Robert Richman)

An emerald tiara wrapped in a silvery paper. Why? This is a nice and expensive gift and yet someone is in pain. That's strange...
