An Old Kind Of Love Poem by David Thomas

An Old Kind Of Love

Rating: 2.7

i was once a top the moon
watching over everything
as i started to climb
i fell, falling through space and time
into the deepest dark
at the bottom of this starry night,
i had seen the world grow
i had seen the people love
and war, and lose, and gain,
the earth was so full of vigor
once upon a time,
as i fell to the darkness
i lost sight of the world,
i climbed atop my old footsteps
and remounted the moon once more
as i gazed unto the earth i loved,
i watched a new people grow over the land
as the older ones (those i knew)
became sparse and then none,
i grew sad to lose such good friends

but then something awoke
deep, deep inside of me
and i opened my eyes for a new time,
watching as my old friends now gone
as their children grew up strong,
and i smiled brightly,
just before i fell off the moon once more.
