An Old Poet Should Bless The Young Poem by Shalom Freedman

An Old Poet Should Bless The Young

AN OLD POET SHOULD BLESS THE YOUNG

An old poet
If he wishes to be wise
Should remember
The young.

He should remember
That they live by love
And know joy
He no longer can.

He should understand
That the most intense hope and dream
Is with those
At the beginning.

An old poet
Should bless the young
For they have so much of the beauty and goodness
Of this world
The old can barely remember.
