An Old Sun Poem by Ahermitinthewoods Crow

An Old Sun

Rating: 4.2

I have been warmed these 30 minutes by this window facing the sea
Had my shawl about my shoulders in the old chair while east winds arose
My medications dutifully given by the meticulous white nurse who stays here
Oranges but no brandy she says brandy to warm my 3 score 10 year bones

White blossoms and pine scents the brine of the sea float past my window
How I used to run the paths through the wood to the mermaids in the bay
How my gaze is turned inward and these aged hands do not belong to me
I am under an old sun in a time not now beside a different sea as another self

She reads to me my favorites verses from the old bards of centuries past
Mists and clouds slowly passing shift the dappled sunlight across my eyes
The voice of the sea mixing into the human heart where all sing and dance
I have fallen asleep again and awaken to the last light caressing the horizon

I watch stars fall that are my tears from a night sky that is my memory
Into a sea whose soul is endless and as deep as all the years
