And If Come Tomorrow Poem by Francis Duggan

And If Come Tomorrow

We hear only humans are born with a soul
And all living things of the World we try to control
And the most lowly creature is born to live till it die
But in that way is it any different to i
And if come tomorrow i lay stiff and dead
To me 'twill not matter if good or bad of me is said
And 'twill not matter to me then though some for me pray
Or what i did with my life or where my bones will lay
And what matter then if one knew of wealth and of fame
Or if one lived as poor or if one died in shame
And the clock on our lives it is ticking so fast
And each day that we live is one nearer to our last
And since no proof of life beyond this Earthly shore
For us is the nothingness of death forever more?
