And Then, There's Your Face. Poem by Kerri White

And Then, There's Your Face.

sirens are surrounding me
like the same look on every face
staring down into a pit of hatred
yet silently blaming it on the only victim.

and then there's your face.
the only thing stopping me
from mutilating my entirety.
the one person who knows the truth.

in a rush of courage you approach me
waiting on that cliche love story to occur
with myself lying here heartwashed
and you being the only beauty i've seen for days.

i lie here because of a solemn reason
the trait which i do not deserve
the uniqueness i'll die saving-
i will not be burdened with love.

and then there's your face,
different from the stereotype
above all the humanity-
the reckless stupidity.

oddly i've seen you before
or maybe it was just your face.
i see these demanding features
in everyone who has hurt me
and I conclude you to be no different.

love with never satisfy me
though you might have been different
i know it will end the same.
the rest of the world has never torn me apart.

and for once I close my eyes without having to fight the tears.
