Another Cemetery Visit Poem by Shalom Freedman

Another Cemetery Visit

Another cemetery visit
Another uttering of memorial words
Do the dead hear this?
Do they know of these gatherings of the few who still care?

I hate cemeteries
I dislike these memorial visits
Nonetheless I make them when asked
A friend was a friend
And I must still be a friend-

It is all sad
It is all frightening
I hate it
But what can I do?
What can anyone do?

Mortals we are
And mortals we shall be
Forever.
